Pigs as Pets

About Us

North American Pet Pig Association (NAPPA) and Pigs as Pets are a volunteer- based animal welfare organization, dedicated to helping Vietnamese potbellied pigs and miniature pigs. Since 1989, we have worked to ensure that Vietnamese potbellied pigs and miniature pigs are kept responsibly by people who choose them as pets. By working with a network of volunteer advocates, shelters, foster caregivers and local veterinarians is able to help many potbellied pigs and miniature pigs every year. We provide these pet pigs with care and temporary homes until we can place them into their permanent homes. We also serve as a resource to our community by providing information on pet pig ownership, including resources for spay/neuter, positive behavior training, nutrition and veterinary care. We believe no pet pig should be mistreated and are working towards the day when no pet pig is euthanized for lack of a home. Our goal is to work with state legislators to reclassify pet pigs as a pet in every state. Many states have already changed their category from livestock to a companion animal.
